Jess creates art inspired by the interplay of decay and resilience reflected in the natural and human made world. She is particularly drawn to the beauty of what is within and beneath cracks and crevices of crumbling sidewalks and buildings, etc. The oxidation of metals and peeling paint gets her exploring ideas of what these surfaces might have endured. These inspiring elements, often found in urban landscapes, shape her abstract compositions. Jess’s favorite part of the creative process is building rich textures by layering paint and other media upon the canvas to mimic the effects of decay and destruction. Jess sees profound beauty in the imperfections of life, expressing her belief that “true beauty can emerge from the cracks and crevices revealed by time and destruction.”
